Hey everyone,

First of all, to those of you waiting for an update of some sort last week......I apologize. I had tried to upload a few photos while we were in Korea but for some reason it wouldn't let me so I did my updating on my Facebook profile. Now that we're home I keep telling myself I need to update my blog but can't seem to find the time. We are still recovering from jet lag and are so very exhausted on top of having a precious but grieving new baby. I'm just going to post a few pictures for now(because I know that's what you all want to see anyways) and then I'll write an update soon........hopefully!!! :) We are doing well though, had an AMAZING time in Korea and are very happy to be home, finally a family of five. Averi is doing well, she's still grieving pretty hard for her Foster mom but we expected this and are compforting her the best we know how. We're just loving on her, kissing her and telling her how much we love her and that she is now with her forever family. More details to come........thank you all so so much for all your comments, messages and prayers. We appreciate them very much!!

SHE'S COMING HOME!!!!!!!!!!

Praise the Lord!! We have waited a VERY long time for this day to come and we could not be more thrilled and overjoyed!! We FINALLY get to meet our baby. Wow!! I still can't believe the time has come.

We received our Travel Call on Tuesday morning. We just purchased our tickets yesterday and we'll be leaving SF on Tuesday the 28th and will be returning on Monday, August 3rd. There's so much to do: packing, cleaning, getting the kids ready, spending time with the kids, making phone calls, making appointments. I think I'll get it all done even though I'm running in circles. My brain isn't working properly at the moment. :)

We'll will try and update everyone while we are there, whether it be by blog, email or Facebook, I'm not to sure. I think we'll have access to a computer while we are there. We are staying at Eastern Social Welfare Society which is the agency on South Korea. So all of our meetings with Averi will be in the same building.....Oh, our meeting with Averi. We will meet her for the first time on Thursday at 10am!!!!! So, in less than a week we will have our baby in our arms.......Yipee!!!! Somebody pintch me!! :)

Our prayer was that we would meet her before her first birthday, well.....she'll be 1 on August 14th. Thank you Jesus!!!

Oh we just love this precious little girl. I cannot believe how big she's getting and how much she's changed. We think she is adorable!!!! :)

The Director of our agency was in Korea again this month and came back with a few new pictures and a video. We were so excited to receive that package in the mail, we have watched it many many times.

We also got a little bit of information on her as well. They say she sits well, crawls quickly, tries to pull herself up, babbles and says "omma and appa." She loves music and plays well with toys. She weighs 8.9kg which I think is around 19lbs and is 67cm tall. They also told us the foster mom loves her very much and cries everyday when she thinks about her leaving her.....this just breaks my heart. She is also very close to the foster daughter who is in high school.

We were hoping to travel in June but unfortunately it'll probably now be in July. :( We just found out that her paperwork in just now being processed in Korea which could take a month to get approved and then she still has to get her visa and passport. :( I'm bummed and very sad but I know there is nothing we can do but continue to wait for her. I know she'll be home in God's perfect timing but waiting is still VERY difficult. I had been told that this part was the hardest but didn't realize just how hard until now. It's in God's hands...not mine and that is so comforting. He knows exactly when she'll be home. I'm just getting alittle anxious and stir crazy, well.......ALOT anxious and stir crazy! Haha!! :) I need to post this verse all over my house and give everything over to Him.

Today our sweet baby is 9 months old.

Hurry home precious girl so we can hug and kiss on you. My arms are starting to ache for her, but I am so thankful that she is being loved on by her wonderful Foster mom.

No updates but we're still praying that we'll travel in June!

Olivia turned 4 years old on the 9th. WOW!!! Time goes by so fast. What a sweet, precious girl she is. She is such a joy to be around with and infectious personality. We are so blessed and thankful to have her in our lives. We cherish every moment.

WHEN WILL SHE BE HOME????????

This is a question we've been getting alot lately and I only wish we had an answer. There are a few things that have to happen first before she is allowed to come home.

First there's the Korean Emigration Process: Once the acceptance forms are signed and sent to Korea, application is made for permission from the Korean government for her emigration and Korean Travel Certificate. This procedure normally takes two to five months.

Once ESWS(our Korean agency) receives the acceptance papers, they will begin the process of applying to the Korean government for emigration permission and a Korean travel certificate, and to the US Embassy for a visa. As of today we have had no update regarding this process.....hopefully soon!!!!

We also had to apply to USCIS(U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services) for their approval of the family and child, and for the admission of Averi into the United States. This consisted of filing the I-600 form(Relative Immigrant Visa Petition)

On March 27th we received a Notice of Approval of Relative Immigrant Visa Petition from USCIS. This does not mean that her visa has been issued, but rather that WE have been approved by USCIS. With this approval and the Korean travel certificate, her visa will be issued and she'll be ready for travel. YAY!!!!!

I know this all sounds kind of confusing, I'm still a little confused by all that goes on. So hopefully this kind of make sense. You can check out our timeline to the right to watch our progress. We'll update it when we hear any new news.

We received a few updated pictures and a short VIDEO of our precious girl about a month ago(I know, I'm just now posting about it). Our director was there in March and was able to hold and kiss her for us. She said that she looks healthy and happy, but a little shy of strangers.

We were able to send Averi a little care package with another family who were traveling to pick up their son. We sent her a little blanket, a small stuffed animal, a photo book with lots of pictures of our family(in hopes that her foster mom will show them to her everyday) a disposable camera(again, hoping that lots of pictures will be taken of her) and a small gift for her foster mom. We're hoping to get an update soon and maybe with a picture of her holding her new blankie!!!

While we're waiting we are trying to stay busy by redoing the kids room. Cleaning, organizing, rearranging....shopping!!!! :) There is LOTS to do before she comes home.

Oh......and also, some big news!!! Danny and I have decided to travel to Korea to pick her up. We have been so set on having her escorted that I'm not really sure what changed our minds but we really feel strongly that we need to go get her. We(I) am very nervous yet very excited!! We'll be able to meet her wonderful foster mom and thank her for all she's done for our baby. We'll also get to see the orphanage she lived in and the country she was born in. I know it will be a wonderful experience and we'll have so much to tell her as she grows up.

Sorry for the long post, it's been so long that there was quite a bit to update you with. As soon as we hear any good news or if we get another update I'll post again. Until then, thanks again to all who have been so supportive and interested in what's going on in our lives.

Words cannot describe the feelings that we have for this precious little girl whom we have never even met. We are so THANKFUL and BLESSED!!! Actually we are shocked and amazed that things went so smooth and quickly for us.

We actually got "the call" on February 17th at 7pm. We were not expecting it to happen so quickly since we had only really been "waiting" for one day. On monday(the 16th) we had our phone conversation with the Director of our AZ agency about the types of referrals we were willing to look at, that type of thing. Our Homestudy had also just been completed(the last step in the process). We knew things would happen fast but we didn't realize how fast. So, you can say that we were more than shocked when she called that next evening and said she had some news for us. She talked for a few minutes about the baby and we said we definitely wanted her to send us the information. Then she said "you haven't even asked the biggest question yet. We had just assumed it was a boy, but I asked anyway and she said "it's a girl"!! I could not believe it, I started crying. As I have probably told many of you we were expecting to receive a referral for a boy only because there are usually more boys that are adopted from of Korea. You can only request a girl if you have two or more boys already in your family. So, we did not specify gender and of course would have been thrilled with either. I am very excited though that Olivia will have a sister and she of course has wanted a sister from the beginning. She is beyond excited!! She is going to be such a big help to me, she absolutely LOVES babies. They will only be a little over 3 years apart. Little Logan doesn't have a clue that he's going to be sandwiched between two sisters. :) He's going to make a wonderful big brother. At first I think he might be a little jealous but I know he'll warm up quickly.

Averi was born on August 14th so she's almost 7 months old. She was born 5 weeks premature but is doing very well. She is described as healthy and happy and age appropriate. She has lived with a foster family since she was 2 months old and for this we are SO thankful!!! I tear up every time I think of this woman and what she is doing for my baby. I wish I could thank her in person for everything she is and will do for our baby in the next few months. To her we will always be grateful. Her foster mom has two kids at home as well and I guess Averi just loves her daughter. Again, we are so thankful that she is able to be in this environment until she is able to be in our arms forever.

We do not have a specific time frame on when she'll be home but they say it usually takes between 3 to 6 months. We are sending our acceptance paperwork out today. I will post later on what happens next and what will go on in the coming months, but for now we just wanted to share her picture with everyone. Please continue to keep her in your prayers. That she continues to stay healthy and that she will come home very soon. I have a feeling these next few months are going to be very rough for us. So...I guess you can keep us in your prayers as well. Thank you again for every one's support throughout this. Please feel free to leave a comment. I would love to print out this blog someday and show it to Averi and to tell her how many people loved and prayed for her. Thank you dear friends and family.........God has richly blessed us by placing each and everyone of you in our lives.

Long overdue update......

For the few of you that actually read this, I'm so sorry for not posting sooner(I told you I'd be bad at this "blog" thing). :)
We had our individual interviews with our social worker in the middle of December which went really well. Our social worker is a wonderful Christian man and very easy to talk to. We feel really comfortable around him and feel blessed that he was chosen to work with us. After that we didn't do much due to the holidays and our Social Worker was off for a little while. It felt strange not doing anything for so long, but then on January 20th we had our Home visit. This was not nearly as bad as we thought it would be. They just want to make sure that your home is safe and sanitary. So the day before my mom helped me clean our house like crazy...it was spotless. Thanks mom!! So he came around 3:00 after the kids were up from their nap. I planned it that way so that they would be rested and on their best behavior. Ha!! :) They actually did really well, they were calm(I know, crazy), sweet, and very happy. So he came, asked a few more questions, looked at every room including the garage and the backyard. Our home is already pretty kid proof so there really wasn't anything that we had to change. The meeting was really harmless and very simple. He was maybe here 45 minutes. It felt so good to finally have the last step completed. So what happens next you ask, well...he had to write up our Home Study which is a document ALL about us and every detail of our lives. Then he sends a copy to our AZ agency which we just found out on Thursday that they had received it. Yay!! We thought it would take about 4 weeks to complete, but thankfully it only took two. Once they look over it and approve it(there might be a few small things we have to change) then they'll send a copy to Korea and to USCIS. So, we are actually now just "waiting" for the call when they tell us we have been matched with a baby. This could happen Monday or it could be weeks from now. The world of adoption is so unknown, but we are so ready to take the next step and see the precious face of the child that the Lord has chosen for us. We have been SO blessed throughout this process, we again are humbled and amazed at the ways the Lord has provided for us in ALL ways. Our faith is completely in Him as we could do nothing without Him. I don't know why I ever even doubt or get anxious because He is the true provider and comforter. This has truly been a journey of faith and it's not even close to being over. We can't wait to see how He continues to grow and strengthen our faith in Him. He teaches us things in every area of our lives and I have truly learned so much in these last few months. So thank you again to everyone who has played apart in this journey with us, you are truly a blessing and we are so thankful for your support and kindness.

So......we have been assigned a social worker and he will be doing our individual interviews with us on Wednesday the 17th at 9am. Please pray for us as I'm a little nervous....the interview will be around an hour and a half long and I am terrible with words and answering questions. I'm not so nervous about talking to him just about what might come out, I tend to get a little tongue tied. :) Danny will do great, I'm not worried about him at all. He feels at ease with anyone, he'll probably be best friends with this guy before the interview's over. :) I'll post next week about how it all went. Have a wonderful weekend!

Adoption Update!

I haven't posted in awhile about the adoption process so I'll fill you in on what's going on. A few weeks ago our application with AZ agency was approved which we were very excited about. So for the most part all the paperwork is done for them....for now. I still have to take a CPR class but I actually found one that I'll be able to take online, very cool!! That will save me having to be gone for about 4 hours on a saturday. I can just complete it at home, on my time and even in my Pj's if I want to. :) Ok.....so, then we started working on everything for our CA agency which consisted of classes, lots of paperwork, forms notorized, fingerprints, etc. Well, on Wednesday we turned everything in to them. Can we say HURRAYYYYY!!!!!!! Now the next step is we will be assigned a social worker who will do individual interviews with us and then the Home Visit. After that they will compile our information and write up our "Home Study" which will then be sent to Korea. Then, we wait..................:)

It's amazing to think that our baby is probably born and thousands of miles away. Our prayer is that our child is loved and cared for until the day the Lord brings us together as a family in His perfect timing. Please keep our family as well as our new child in your prayers. November is National adoption awareness month and I was going to write a little something about it but I came across this video and it says more than I could ever say. Obviously adoption is on my heart so it touched me deeply, hopefully it does the same for you. I am not a person who cries a lot but I always seem to when I watch videos involving orphans. There are millions of orphans in the US and throughout the world who are in need of a loving home. Last year at this time is when Danny and I felt the call to adopt. Little did we know that November was National Adoption Month. A time where many Christians are praying that the Lord would lay it on the hearts of families to support or adopt a child. Another little reason we feel and know this is what the Lord had planned for us. It's amazing to look back over the last year and see all that the Lord has done for us. He is good, all the time. This month I am so thankful for the blessing of adoption!! Please watch...

We spent the evening at my sister's house. Danny had to work so we didn't go trick or treating but I still wanted to get the kids dressed up. They loved it and I must say they looked pretty cute. :)

Logan was supposed to be a pirate but wasn't to interested in wearing his hat, hook or earring. And of course Livy wanted to be a princess.

We had a fun, quiet evening and ate sooo much delicious food. Great time with the fam!!!

Yay for us..............we finally turned in our application to our AZ agency!!!! It took us about 3 months to fill out, but that's ok......we did it!!!! It feels so good to have that part of this process done. Now onto more paperwork, our homestudy and classes for our CA agency. We'll keep you posted!! :)

I know this update is a little late in coming but we wanted to share a little bit about how the Lord blessed us through our garage sale. Who would have thought that you could make $2000.00 at a garage sale(which is what we made). Yay!!!!!!! We are humbled and amazed at the way the Lord provided for us last weekend and as he is continuing to provide through His people. We have no doubt that He will provide for us throughout this journey but we are still blown away by His faithfulness as He provides for His children.
We wanted to thank EVERYONE who helped out with the garage sale, whether it was a donation, helping with the garage sale or making baked good(which was a huge hit). Thank you, thank you.....we could not have done it without all the help and support. We have amazing family and friends and we love you all.

GARAGE SALE IS ON!

When I posted earlier about our garage sale I was unsure of the dates it would be held on. We will be having it on October 10th and 11th. Danny was able to get both days off so since I now have the help and TONS of stuff we decided to have it two days instead of one. Thank you to everyone who donated their "stuff"(such a blessing), hopefully we'll get it all sold so we're able to pay for the next phase of payments for the adoption process. We continue to trust in the Lord for his guidance and provisions. Come check us out next weekend, maybe you'll find a "treasure" you can't live without. Oh....did I mention my mom and sisters will be selling a few baked goods(I think :) ), how can you pass up on that!! :) Or just come by to say "hi". I hope everyone has a great weekend.

Physicals Are Done!!!

This week Carla and I had to get our physicals done for the adoption process which is a requirement. And believe it or not Carla is almost done with her autobiography so we can then turn in our HUGE application to Dillon Southwest in Arizona. Since we live in California, we now will have to go through another adoption agency called Family Connections in California and do all the same paperwork again which should be a piece of cake the second time around, lol.

I know it's kind of confusing that we are going through two different agencies but Dillon Southwest does the placement of the child and Family Connections does our home study which is basically like a background check, well sort of. We will be attending two meetings with Family Connections during October and then be assigned a social worker.

And by the way Carla and I celebrated our 8 year anniversary today. Happy Anniversary Carla, I love you!!!

LOGAN IS TWO!!!!!!

Two years ago our precious "miracle Boy" came into the world 12 weeks early. Looking at him now you would never know he was a tiny 3 pound baby. Those first couple months were very hard yet we were so happy and thankful for our little boy. We were so blessed to have our family and friends surrounding us with love and support during that time. The Lord gave us such a special kind of peace and comfort during those two months in the hospital. We thank Him every day for Logan and the blessing he is, what joy he brings to our family. God is good!!

We celebrated his birthday with both of our families. Thank you everyone who came and celebrated with us. We missed you Uncle Jon Jon, Auntie JoJo and Uncle Bubsy!!! Logan had such a good time and he LOVED all of his presents! :)

We also celebrated Danny's 30th birthday. As a surprise I invited some friends to come over after Logan's party to celebrate with Danny. We had LOTS of cake. It was a very busy and fun filled day. Thank you again to everyone who came, Danny was very surprised and loved every minute of it.

Still no adoption news to post about. I'm afraid I'm holding things up by not finishing my 10 page autobiography which is part of our application. I guess you can pray about that for me, that I stop procrastinating and start writing. Once that is finished and we both get our medical reports(we have appointments this week with the Dr.) then we can finally turn in our application.

Today my amazing husband is 30 years old......I can't believe it!!! We met almost 14 years ago when we were just kids in high school, seems like so long ago. We were high school sweethearts and he is still the love of my life. Thank you Danny for being the most wonderful husband that a woman could ask for. You always make me laugh and you are the greatest dad to Olivia and Logan. Thank you for everything you do for us. We love you!!!

We're Home!!!

Well, we got home on Monday afternoon. We had an amazing time. It was a weekend full of information but also very relaxing. We met with the Director of our agency on friday afternoon for about 3 hours with another couple from CA who are also just starting the process for a Korean adoption. She is a very nice lady and we can tell she has a huge heart for the children and loves what she does. Our agency is very small, only about 5 women working there. They place children with AZ families and families in CA on a case-by-case basis. We are so thankful to be working with them. Some of the larger agencies have at least a two year wait but with ours it will probably only be around a year(could be shorter, could be longer). So, friday was just spent with the Director where we were able to ask her any questions we were dying to ask. Saturday morning was the meat of the training. We met at the agency at 9 in the morning where there were about 8 other couples. There were two other families from CA and the rest were from AZ. Again we were all able to ask questions and they then just went over the process of adopting from Korea. Lots and lots and lots of info, I can't even begin to tell you what we learned. Very good info though, they went over everything.
For lunch they took us to a Korean restaurant. I must say I was a little afraid to try some of the things placed before me but everything was actually very good. I have never tried Korean food before but we were very glad we did. I'm sure we'll be eating Korean food a lot more in the future, everyone needs to try it. Maybe I'll be making it in my own kitchen someday, who knows. :) The Korean culture is going to be a huge part of our lives now so we intend to incorporate a few things from that culture.
After we came back from lunch(this was my favorite part) we were able to meet a couple who had just adopted their first child a few months before. They brought him along and let me tell you he was an ADORABLE little boy. He was so good, he just played in the middle of the room while we all gazed upon him as we questioned the very helpful parents......Oh, he was so cute!!
When they had gone a group of adult Korean adoptees came in and again lots of questions and answers, very helpful. I loved hearing their stories and life experience's regarding growing up as adopted children. The rest of the weekend was spent sleeping, shopping and eating......it was very relaxing! The weekend made Danny and I all the more excited to begin this journey knowing that this is what the Lord wants us to do. Please keep praying for us because now we're up to our necks in paperwork. I'm somewhat of a procrastinator so I've been putting off my 10-12 page autobiography so once that's done we'll be able to turn in our application and move on to the next step. Thank you for all your emails and comments we love and appreciate them SO much!!!

Arizona Trip!

Hello everyone this is Danny. I have officially reached geek status since I am blogging now. For you that don't know, we are going through an adoption agency (Dillon Southwest) in Arizona. There is an orientation/training meeting coming up so we will be in Scottsdale Arizona from Sept. 4th through the 8th. It looks like the flu may be going around the Sauer family so pray that Carla and I are healthy at least during our trip, lol. Carla an I are so thankful to have great parents that are going to babysit Olivia and Logan while we are gone. God is already providing during this process. We have been generously provided a place to stay while in Scottsdale! Please pray for a safe trip.

Hot Air Balloon Festival

Not much to update on the adoption process....we're still just doing lots of paper work and kind of taking our time. So for now all you'll be getting is probably a bunch of pictures. :)

This morning I got the kids up around 6 and we left the house around 6:30 to head out to the Hot Air Balloon Festival in our town. Danny had to work so my parents were nice enough to go with me. My brother and his wife were also there with their precious kids. Even though it was so early(we usually don't get up until 7:30 or 8:00) the kids were wide awake and so excited to go. They loved seeing the balloons fill up and take off. Logan was a little scared but he got used to it. We had a lot of fun!! I think we'll make it a yearly tradition. Thanks mom and dad for going with me, couldn't have did it without you guys. :)

Why Adoption and why Korea???

Many of you know the answer to these questions, but I'll write a little about it for those of you who do not know.

Danny and I both come from large families(we each have 3 siblings) and always knew we wanted a large family of our own one day. We were married very young so we wanted to wait a few years until we started our family. Olivia was born about 5 years after we were married and it was the happiest day of our lives. We love parenting so much, Olivia was such a precious, sweet baby. So....Danny decided he loved parenting so much that he wanted another one right away!!! :) We were pregnant again when O was just 10 months old......we were very excited! Logan was supposed to be born in December of 2006 but decided to come in September, he weighed 3 pounds 1 oz(I'll post more on our "miracle boy" later). Having complications with both pregnancies we decided that we shouldn't risk getting pregnant again. We are so blessed with our 2 children, we thank the Lord for them everyday, but we still felt in our hearts that our family was not yet complete. After a lot( and I mean a lot) of thought and prayer we definitely knew the Lord was calling us to adopt. We have been researching adoption for almost a year now, and we feel like this is the right time for us to start the process. Even though I do not like writing that much I feel that I could write all day about this, so please....if you have any questions please ask.
Now onto the "Why Korea".....There are a lot of reasons, but I'll just touch on a few. 1.) We meet all the requirements, age, length of marriage, etc...2.) the children are healthy infants(about 5 months and up). 3.)The babies are well taken care of by foster mothers until they are placed with their families...I really liked this fact. We both just feel that a Korean adoption would be the best fit for our family.
We are in the very beginning of the process and it is already overwhelming. We would appreciate your prayers very much. The Lord is faithful and we know he will be with us every step of this journey. Thank you again to everyone who has loved and supported us so far.....we truly have the greatest friends and family anyone could ask for!! :)

Family and friends,

I've been putting off this blog for weeks now only because I don't know where to begin. As many of you know Danny and I just started the process for an international adoption. We will do our best to update everyone with whats going on. I do not enjoy writing that much so my posts will probably be short and sweet, nothing fancy and eloquent coming from me. I'm just going to try and be myself and write whats on my heart as well as any adoption news....we'll see how I do!! :) I may have Danny do a lot of the posting as well. We'll post more details later. Please feel free to ask any question, we'll do our best to answer.
